That’s the question I was asked recently. After I stopped laughing, I responded “Absolutely not. We have no desire to increase our business.” Thankfully, she recognized my sarcasm and we shared another laugh. But it got me thinking…

• Do my current customers know that I am “open” for business?

• Do they know that I would LOVE for them to refer me other clients.
• Have I kept in contact enough to earn new business?

We’ve all heard that our current customers are our best source of new business. I believe there is an awful lot of truth in that. Sure we get busy. (That’s the goal of running a business, right?) But how many businesses do you know that aren’t interested in gaining new business? My guess is not too many.

Make sure your current customers know that you’re “open for business”. Host an open house or customer appreciation day. Send them a newsletter (print or electronic) that lets them know about new service or product offerings. Give them a useful promotional item.
